Discover the Power of Black Adoption: A Private and Inclusive Platform for Creating Forever Families
Private adoption should be accessible, regardless of race or financial status. It should not be exclusive to wealthy, white couples, particularly when it concerns adopting Black/biracial children.

THE PROBLEM
Black families face a range of challenges when it comes to the private adoption process. One major obstacle is the cost of adoption, many Black families simply cannot afford the excessive fees associated with the process. The national average is $40,000 and sometimes exceeds $65,000. Additionally, Black families may face discrimination from adoption agencies, attorneys, or social workers that prefer white families (even to nonwhite children). Another challenge is the lack of education and support for Black families who are interested in adoption. Noire Adoption is working to address these challenges by providing a safe space for our community within the adoption industry.

THE IDEA
Noire Adoption is revolutionizing the adoption industry by prioritizing the needs of Black families and children. We recognize that Black families are often overlooked in the adoption process, and seek to create a more equitable and just system. Noire Adoption has built a support community of 800+ hopeful adoptive parents and an online platform of around 30 hopeful parents that are ready for matches and placements. We have the largest database of home study-approved hopeful parents out of any adoption profile hosting site or adoption agency.
The National Association of Black Social Workers (NABSW) released a statement opposing the transracial adoption of Black children by White parents in 1972. They believed it prevented the adoptees from having a healthy sense of self and identity as a Black person. In 2023 we see this is still a major concern. Noire Adoption will work towards minimizing the number of transracial adoptions of Black/biracial babies by working with adoption agencies, attorneys, social workers, women’s shelters, and pregnancy centers across the nation so that the expectant mothers of Black/biracial babies know they have more than enough options to select from. Many adoptees, including Colin Kaepernick, have come forward to discuss the racism and discrimination they faced from the family (and local community) they were adopted into. Giving the expectant mothers of Black and biracial babies plenty of diverse families to choose from can help eliminate that added layer of adoption trauma.

THE PLAN
Noire Adoption has identified multiple opportunities to revolutionize the private adoption industry.
The first opportunity is connection - Noire Adoption provides a platform where expectant moms can find and connect with hopeful couples on their own without the pressure of an adoption agency thinking about collecting fees. By the expectant mom having the space to browse freely they are given the opportunity to choose the hopeful parents they want, not settle for what the adoption agency has. Even if they are not Black. They can still get the same moral and financial support, which is a big selling point agencies push to get women to sign up.
The second opportunity is education - most hopeful adoptive parents don't understand how private adoption works. We're all familiar with the "Black adoption" we grew up with where someone was raised by a family member or friend but no legal documentation was filed. We provide educational content breaking down each step of the process to provide hopeful parents with all of the information to make their adoptions affordable and ethical.
The third opportunity is cost - going through a private adoption agency, a hopeful parent is estimated to spend around $40k in fees. If an expectant mom connects with a couple through the platform the fees are reduced significantly. These “self-match independent adoptions” are closer to $15,000 in fees. With the adoption tax credit being the same amount families are able to recoup those fees. Focusing on these opportunities will drastically change how accessible adoption is for Black families and make sure their quality of life is not drastically impacted afterward by the huge financial commitment.
The future of Black adoption in the private adoption industry is bright, thanks in large part to Noire Adoption. Noire Adoption is leading the way in creating a more equitable and just adoption system, and other agencies are starting to follow their lead. As more agencies prioritize Black families for children, we can expect to see a more diverse and inclusive adoption system.
Additionally, the Black Lives Matter movement has brought increased attention to racial disparities in adoption and is helping to create momentum for change. By raising awareness of the challenges faced by Black families and children in the adoption process, the movement is helping to create a more just and equitable adoption system.
