Can I Pick The Gender Of The Baby I Want To Adopt?

Video CC: Hey everyone, in today's video I wanted to talk about being gender specific with private infant adoption. This is a topic that often gets overlooked when talking about adoption and I wanted to bring more attention to it. When a family is looking to adopt a baby, they may have a gender preference. While this can help narrowing the field and making nursery prep process a bit easier for the adoptive family, it can also potentially extend the wait time with being placed for a baby.

In many cases, the gender can be incorrect. It's not unheard of for families who are expecting a baby girl to get a baby boy or vice versa. The reason for this is often due to limited prenatal care. There are a lot of expectant moms that receive little to no prenatal care for a variety of reasons and that means that the gender of the baby may only be known at the time of birth. Some moms take gender prediction tests they order online but those aren't always accurate. In other cases, the ultrasound tech isn't able to see the baby completely which can make it hard to determine the gender as well.

Another issue with gender-specific adoption is that some adoption agencies won't allow hopeful adoptive parents to have a gender preference. That means you have to be open to whatever gender you get matched with.

Now imagine matching with an expectant mom and you hit it off. You're both everything the other person is looking for but a few weeks later you find out the gender confirmation was incorrect. Will you go your separate ways and try to match again or will you stick it out and continue with the match?

It's important to remember that every situation is different and that adopting a child is never an easy or straightforward process. Even though specifying a gender can help streamline the process, it comes with challenges and potential issues. If you like this video then please give us a follow and let me know in the comments if you have a gender preference or if you're open to whatever you get matched with. Thank you so much for watching and I'll see you soon!
